Emporia River Intake Site

Project Highlights

  • A new, deeper and longer retaining wall with additional auxiliary features
  • Site Grading
  • A new approach for pavement and sidewalks

Project Overview

Emporia River Intake Site

This project consisted of the removal of an existing failed retaining wall with a new retaining wall. The new retaining wall was deeper and longer, and had additional auxiliary features for safety and longevity (handrail, drainage gutters). Once excavated to the planned elevation, it was discovered that the layer of limestone that the new retaining wall footing was supposed to be keyed into was non-existent, so over-excavation and placement of a lean concrete layer to simulate the limestone was required. Additional work included site grading, and new approach pavement and sidewalks around the pump station and chemical feed building.
